clock.motn lives on a private .motn zone, so first trust its certificate and resolver. macOS and Windows. The same account and the same key on both.
clock.motn is not a public domain: it is served with the motn root certificate and resolved by the motn resolver, not a public one. Run this once per machine. It trusts the CA and points .motn at the resolver — nothing else about your DNS changes.
$ curl -fsSL https://clock.motionlabs.ng/setup.sh | sh$ irm https://clock.motionlabs.ng/setup.ps1 | iexAdd the CA to your browser's trust store too, or reach clock.motionlabs.ng (a normal public cert) for the app.
Paste this into Terminal. It downloads the latest build, installs clock.motn.app, clears the Gatekeeper flag, installs the shell and agent hooks, and opens the app. No sudo.
$ curl -fsSL https://clock.motionlabs.ng/install.sh | shmacOS 13+ · installs to /Applications · writes only /Applications and ~/.clock.motn

Sign up and generate a key
Create an account, open Settings, and press Generate key. It is shown once. Copy it now; if you lose it, generate another and the old one stops working.

Paste the key into the app
Click the clock in the menu bar, then Settings…, and paste into Motion Key. The app checks it against the server and shows ✓ Accepted as you@example.com. If you passed
--keyto the installer, this is already done. - 03
Grant Accessibility
Projects come from window titles, so reading them needs macOS Accessibility. The app asks on first launch; Accessibility Permission… in its menu opens the right pane, and the item disappears once granted.
Without it the app still counts time, but every project reads as Unknown Project, except what your shell and agents report themselves.
- 04
Choose what is tracked
Monitored Apps… lists what is installed. Only apps switched on are ever recorded; untracked apps produce no data at all, not hidden data. Common work apps are pre-ticked, and Show all apps reveals the rest.
- 05
Launch at login
In Settings…, tick Launch at login. There is no daemon to start.
- The menu bar reads 0 secs and starts counting when you type in a tracked app.
- Within about a minute the dashboard shows the first minutes and lists your Mac under Settings → Devices.
- Gatekeeper warns on first launch: the app is signed but not notarized yet. Right-click it → Open → Open, once.
- Everything is unlabeled: Accessibility is not granted. Menu → Accessibility Permission…
- Server rejected the key: it was regenerated. Paste the new one.
- Terminal time reads as Unknown Project: open a new terminal so the shell hook loads.
